A surprising array of nature amidst an urban setting
Give your kids, friends, and family the ability to become Jerusalem wildlife experts.
Enter the gates and experience a nature oasis amongst one of the most bustling areas of Jerusalem.
While gazing at the birds, both local and migratory, that have come to enjoy the pond, you might catch your first glimpse of a fleeing gazelle.
As you continue to meander through a park, that appears deceptively small from the highway but is actually quite vast, you will train your eyes to spot more and more of the herd roaming happily and freely through the natural landscape.
Birds, trees, plants, tortoises, frogs and lizards have claimed this spectacular park as home while we have the privilege of following the specifically roped-off paths to catch glimpses of their world.
By taking the time to explore the many nooks and pathways you will also stumble upon man-made artwork and sitting areas that neatly blend into the park setting.

Gazelle Valley is the biggest urban nature site in Israel. It is the best place to watch the mountain gazelles species in their natural habitat. About 65 members of this endangered species are living in the park, leading a mostly natural lifestyle. Like in the wild, the gazelles find food on their own, breed, raise their young, and fight over territory. Alongside the gazelles the park is home to dozens of species of birds, reptiles, insects, and plants, compiling a functioning urban ecosystem.
This valley was once home to a herd of over 33 wild gazelles. In the year 1993, their passage to the mountains surrounding Jerusalem was blocked by a new highway, and those gazelles were trapped in the valley. In the following years, the herd gradually disappeared due to the threats of feral dogs, jackals, and even humans, who chased the gazelles to the highway, where most of them lost their lives. A decade later, the area was designated to become a luxurious housing project, and the gazelle's fate seemed doomed.
Their human neighbors came to their aid. For more than 12 years the inhabitants of the neighboring streets fought to save the valley, and in the year 2015 Gazelle Valley Park was established.
Gazelle Valley is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, and you can reach the park with both private and public transportation.
